Propiedades farmacológicas e indicaciones del Omeprazol

• Se trata de un inhibidor de la bomba de protones más potente que la cimetidina, con larga duración de acción (24 horas).
• Se utiliza como protector de estómago, en procesos como esofagitis, úlceras gástricas y duodenales y síndrome hipesecretor asociado a gastrinoma. 
• Su utilización es útil en aquellos procesos anestésicos y quirúrgicos relacionados con la manipulación de mastocitomas.

Dosis en Perros

• 0,5 a 1,5 mg/Kg por vía oral (PO) o intravenosa (IV) cada 24 horas hasta un máximo de 8 semanas.

Dosis en Gatos

• 0,75 a 1 mg/Kg por vía oral (PO) o  intravenosa (IV) cada 24 horas hasta un máximo de 8 semanas.

Dosis en Hurones

• 0,7 a 2 mg/Kg por vía oral (PO) o intravenosa (IV) cada 24 horas hasta un máximo de 8 semanas.

Contraindicaciones, principales efectos adversos e interacciones farmacológicas.

• Puede causar supresión crónica de la secreción gástrica.
• Su uso continuado puede provocar hiperplasia de las células de la mucosa, e hipertrofia rugal.
• Se recomienda un tratamiento máximo de 8 semanas.
• Entre los efectos adversos, se han registrado nauseas, diarrea y rash cutáneo.
• La preparación intravenosa se ha de descartar inmediatamente tras su uso.
• El omeprazol puede potenciar los efectos de la fenitoína.
